Ah … Autumn.

Today is the kind of day that makes a person enormously thankful to be alive, and it’s the kind of day in which a person really feels alive too.

The air is clean, the temperature crisp, the sky bright blue, the clouds bright white. Snow blankets the peaks, and the aspens are shedding gold and bronze-colored leaves into a light breeze blowing from the north.

It’s utterly delightful.

I walked to the store this morning, and the sidewalk was piled deep with the fallen leaves of aspens and cottonwoods. The smell of the leaves coupled with the morning dew was faintly reminiscent of long-steeped black tea and rich farm soil. It’s the scent of life as though nature’s giving her last vibrant cry before retreating behind the cover of a cold and bleak winter.

I am so thankful to live in a place I love.

What a beautiful post! We don’t really have a very discernable Autumn in this part of So. Cal., but I love the crisp air in the mornings, and I adore looking at pictures of trees in the fall.

Your words made me imagine I was actually there to feel and smell and experience!
