$3600 a Year!

I came across this idea from the Simple Living forums.

It’s a lesson in simple frugality and simple math. If you can save an extra $300 a month, or about $10 a day, at the end of the year you’ll have saved $3600. For us, $3600 is about 10% of our take home pay.

Rather than simply putting an extra $300 a month away in a savings account, it’s about reducing our consumption and living more simply and more frugally.

I’m the type of person who just needs goals as motivation to make things work in the direction I’d like to see them go. If I don’t create a game for myself and play it in order to ingrain a new habit, I get board before the desired behavior becomes a habit at all.

Nevertheless, I imagine it’d be fun to keep track of the expenses and see that frugal living adds up. Eventually, when our savings have grown and we’ve reduced our cost living enough, we’d like to move away from the land of inflated real estate prices and just live as self-sufficiently as we can. Until then, we’ll be patient and keep learning and practicing the skills we’ll need: frugal living is definitely at the top of this list.

Very Cool! I too have to make things games so they become habit. I’ve often wondered if this suggests that I’m competitive…

This blog gets me excited. I’m a beginner at frugal living, but I sure am trying. Could you help a sister out and tell me the best and least complicated sights or books to help get me started!!
