Holistic Moms Network

I’m starting a local chapter of the Holistic Moms Network, and I’m really looking forward to it. HMN chapters meet monthly and meetings feature guest speakers and discussions on an array of topics like birth stories, informed vaccination, homeopathy, mindful parenting, sleep issues and so much more. Some chapters offer additional meetings like play groups, book and cooking clubs and mom’s night out.

I’m looking forward to connecting with other parents in our are who are interesting in the same lifestyle that we live and the same issues that we hold dear.

It’s going to take quite a bit of work on my part to get the chapter started, and, of course, I have a fear that no one else will be interested in attending meetings though I know that in our community a group like HMN will be widely welcomed especially with all the baby-wearing, home-birthing, breastfeeding, co-sleeping treehuggers in the area.

I’m looking for some potential guest speakers. I’m thinking that our favorite acupuncturist (the woman who kept my pregnancy-long morning sickness in check) might be interested in speaking on shonishin (Japanese pediatric acupuncture), and that the new homeopath in town might be interested in discussing homeopathy.

If you’re interested in joining a chapter of Holistic Moms Network, you can search for one here and if you don’t find one in your area you can always look into starting a chapter.

I recently met with the local HMN and was very impressed.

I work in a nature/environmental center and bemoan the fact that so many parents who come in do not seem to interact with their children - looking for others to teach/play/talk with them. But the HMN group was refreshingly different. They all took an active interest in everything their children did. I also loved that they said that they want to learn about nature and the environment as well - and were active learners along with their children. Very refreshing and encouraging - maybe there is some hope.

Another reason I don’t care for living in SC…not many groups like that here. Mostly “Walmart Moms” in this area….

    Hey Jenny,
The Holistic mom’s thing sounds awesome! I do think a network would help me with my latest dilema, finding a pediatrician that is supportive of our natural ways.
On another note, I wanted to invite you to join me in Thankful Thursdays if you are interested. It’s just something I am trying to start to help myself and others remember what is really important in life. You can chek it out if you want, I explain it on my blog. Have a great day!
