Podcasts

I’m tired after canning yet another 40 lbs of tomatoes, so I’m gonna keep this one short.

It’s blogroll day, but rather than bring up blogs I’m offering up some podcasts. Though I’m not wild about talk radio, I’ve fallen for podcasting and really enjoy listening to them when I’m busy cleaning or, lately, canning the endless supply of tomatoes (mostly heirloom varieties today).

First one is Natural Moms Talk Radio. I don’t know what to say, but I like this one–a lot. There was a great episode that featured Heather Forbes of Beyond Consequences. I remember listening to it and thinking to myself, “YES! Someone gets it!”

Second one is Living Green: Effortless Ecology for Everyday People. The episodes are worth listening to, especially if green living is new to you. It offers some good information and is an easy listen. Unfortunately, its host tends to place a lot of emphasis on eco-chic jetsetters (see my thoughts on eco-chic here) who like to rub elbows with the stars. That’s not particularly helpful or informative and I think it’s fairly tacky, but I doubt I’m her target audience.

And that’s it for now, because I’m so tired.

Thanks so much Jenny for the thumbs up for my show! I did really enjoy talking with Heather, and the book is fantastic too, have you read it?

Jenny, if you’re looking for better “green” podcasts, have you checked out Sierra Club Radio, Treehugger Radio or Grist’s podcast? They are all great. Sierra Clubs runs about 30 minutes, the other 2 are usually under 10 minutes. I’ve been really happy with them, especially the Sierra Club Radio podcast - I learn something new every time I listen (and it’s pretty free of eco-chic). You can also podcast PRI’s Living On Earth, which is pretty good, too.

I’m going to have to check out Natural Mom’s Talk Radio! Thanks for the tip.

And you are my hero for doing so much canning. I’m just making tomato sauce and freezing it, but someday I want to can! Some day…

Canning tomatoes is so foreign to me…we need a greenhouse to get tomatoes to grow here is Southeast Alaska. Maybe we could swap tomatoes for smoked salmon some day..although I don’t know how green that would be :)
